October 23, 2023 – Ferrari unveiled ‘SF90 XX Stradale,’
the new special limited series model based on the brand’s first PHEV supercar
‘SF90 Stradale,’ for the first time in Korea.
The unveiling private view was held for two days from
October 21 to 22 at the Ferrari Cheongdam showroom for customers. The SF90 XX
Stradale was unveiled in Korea four months after its global premiere in June.
It gathered attention from Ferrari collectors and enthusiasts worldwide, and
all 799 planned production units were sold out.
SF90 XX Stradale is the first road-going car in the
‘XX Programme’ that offers a select group of expert client drivers extreme cars
that are not homologated for the road. Drawing on its experience both on track
and road, Ferrari decided to create a road-legal car that embodies the maximum
expression of the two programs’ engineering concepts.
The SF90 XX Stradale has inherited the signature PHEV
layout found in the SF90 Stradale. The V8 internal combustion engine that bursts
797cv maximum power is integrated with three electric motors that deliver an
additional 233cv(171kW). This configuration allows the car to unleash a maximum
of 1,030cv (30cv more than the SF90 Stradale), setting a new performance
benchmark.
In particular, it slashed 3.5kg off the engine’s
weight compared to the SF90 Stradale. At the same time, efficiency was
increased by polishing the inlet and exhaust ducts, and the compression ratio
was increased by adopting new pistons and specific machining of the combustion
chamber. In addition, the electric motor optimally manages the power flows in
accordance with the driving conditions with the control logic. Thanks to the
seamless coordination between the electric front axle, the 8-speed DCT gearbox,
the rear-mounted electric motor, and the V8 engine, drivers can enjoy progressive,
continuous acceleration and make all the powertrain’s power available as
rapidly as possible.
The SF90 XX Stradale delivers the most efficient
aerodynamic performance of any road-going car in Ferrari’s history. One of the
most signature elements is the rear fixed spoiler – the first to appear on a
road-going Ferrari since the days of the F50 in 1995 – which delivers an
unparalleled 530kg of downforce at 250km/h. It can cope with the higher maximum
power available by redesigning the cooling flow management for the thermal and
electric components and the engine compartment. It delivers double the maximum
downforce of the SF90 Stradale, improving grip.
What really captures the attention in the aerodynamic
features is the patented extra boost vehicle dynamics logic, an absolute first
on a Prancing Horse road car. It guarantees additional power in short bursts.
The job of this software, which is only active in the Qualifying mode of the
eManettino, is to produce an extra boost of power at the critical moment when
the car is exiting a bend, something which alone improves lap time by 0.25s at
Fiorano. Another major new addition is the ABS EVO controller, which debuted on
the 296 GTB. Thanks to its integration with the 6W-CDS sensor, it improves
performance and repeatability in high-performance braking in dry conditions.
The SF90 XX Stradale is the most extreme version of
the SF90 Stradale; its design criteria are thus those of a track car,
calibrated to ensure it can be homologated for road use. It embodies the
pinnacle of Prancing Horse track technology and aerodynamic efficiency with air
intakes and vents, a fundamental part of racing cars’ stylistic language, three
louvres on the front and the rear wing, and a redesigned tail volume. Technical
fabric and carbon fibre inspired by racing were widely used in the interior as
well.
