Maranello, 16th June 2023 – Ferrari presents Ferrari
Endurance, a large format book that celebrates both Ferrari’s astonishing
endurance racing history and its return to the WEC’s top category with the 499P
five decades after its last appearance at Le Mans. Another oustanding editorial
project developed by Ferrari, after the one dedicated to the Monza SP1/SP2
launched in 2021.
With a strictly limited print-run of just 99 numbered
copies aimed at the Prancing Horse’s leading collectors and enthusiasts, this
new volume will be presented at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Every single detail of
Ferrari Endurance, which has an introduction by Chairman John Elkann,
celebrates the Prancing Horse’s history in these competitions. This meticulous
approach begins with the number of pages: 312, as in the legendary 312 PB,
which swept the boards in 1972, winning every single race it entered. The book
recounts the great feats of the past, with the triumphs and heroes of the 1950s
and 60s and a series of stunning photos showcasing details of the models that
built the Ferrari legend. It also details the years between 1974 and 2022, when
privateer teams delivered a long list of victories in Prancing Horse cars. An
entire chapter is dedicated to the Daytona SP3, a member of the Icona series,
photographed at the famous Nürburgring. Of course, Ferrari Endurance would not
have been complete without the debut of the new Hypercar, the 499P, in the
opening race of the WEC 2023 at Sebring. It closes with a statistical section
detailing Ferrari’s endurance racing results from 1947 to the present.
However, it is not simply this book’s content – its
superbly written copy and often previously unseen images - that brings to life
the “flavour” of those gruelling races. Ferrari Endurance’s exterior visual is
equally as extraordinary, drawing the viewer into a uniquely reference-rich
tactile and aesthetic experience. Both front and back covers are riveted
aluminium, a nod to iconic Ferraris of the past from the Mille Miglia-winning
166 MM to the 275P which triumphed at Le Mans.
Even the spine was made by the 3D printer currently in use in the racing
department, the same that realizes the 499P engine basement. The book’s inner
structure is in aluminium machined from a solid block, a particularly
sophisticated process used to make many of the mechanical components of the
cars built at Maranello.
The presentation case, on the other hand, is
carbon-fibre, a material used for Ferrari’s most recent models, from the F40LM
to its new hypercar, the 499P, with a NACA duct referencing the legendary F40.
Painted in Ferrari’s instantly recognisable Rosso Corsa, the presentation case
was crafted using the same techniques as the structural components of Ferrari’s
racing cars while its interior is trimmed in Alcantara, just like the 499P.
“Passion, determination, endurance: Ferrari is rooted in
all three. These qualities have helped us throughout the years since 1946, and
they are guiding us as the Company this year returns to the top level of
endurance racing. In 2021, I had the tremendous honour of being the official
starter of the Le Mans 24 Hours,” – says Ferrari Chairman John Elkann in the
book’s introduction - “in 2023 Ferrari is ready to add to that remarkable
endeavour with the 499P participating at Le Mans’ centenary edition, a circuit
at which it has achieved nine overall victories and countless class triumphs
since its first success in 1949. (…) This is a journey that has been 77 years
in the making. Now we find ourselves at the start of a thrilling new phase. I
hope that this book acts as a tribute to everyone who has contributed to
Ferrari’s great success and an inspiration to our future in endurance racing.”
